HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
I love YA fantasy & I'm a sucker for a good, sweet romance too. Every once in a while, a passage will make me roll my eyes (or, worse, want to throw the book across the room). You know, too sappy. Over-the-top dialogue.
Case in point, not a book, but one of my favorite shows is Downton Abbey and there have been a couple of eye-roll moments between the newlyweds, Mary & Matthew:
Mary: But not only Downton. Us. We must never take us for granted. Who knows what's coming?
Matthew: I have to take one thing for granted: that I will love you until the last breath leaves my body.
Mary: Oh my darling, me, too. Me, too.
Seriously? Who talks like that?? LOL Still--please, don't get me wrong--I'm in love with all the upstairs/downstairs drama at Downton & will continue to watch. I'm a die-hard fan.
So, as for romance in books (or movies or TV): what works and what makes you roll your eyes (or, worse, throw the book (or remote or popcorn) against the wall)?
Hope your Valentine's is a happy one!
xoxo
